When I was in High School, my band director always mentioned to us how if we had our instruments out of the case at home in a very accessible location, that we were more likely to practice since there were fewer barriers/steps to begin a practice session. I found this to be very true. When I had my drum pad and sticks setup in my bedroom, I would practice more than if my drum pad would be sitting on a shelf.
This holds true for many other aspects of life as well outside of music. When I still lived at home with my parents, they would be a little upset whenever I would leave my “Karate Bag” in the living room, but having my bag in the living room would make it so much easier to go to class than if my bag was upstairs in my room! Let’s talk about writing blog articles. When my personal laptop is propped open on my kitchen counter, I am more likely to write blog articles than if it is sitting on a shelf in my office. Now let’s talk about something as silly as laundry. It is much easier to wash my do bahks when I load my sweaty used ones in the washer right away rather than leave them on the floor or in the hamper. Having a luxury as simple as in-unit-laundry makes doing laundry so much easier to do. The constant accessibility of a washer and dryer leads to flexibility. This flexibility aids in our productivity.
